CBU to Host Corrugated Packaging Workshop
for High School Students

Memphis - Christian Brothers University (CBU) will host a Corrugated Packaging Workshop for high school students under a grant from the International Corrugated Packaging Foundation (ICPF) on Tuesday, November 6, 3:00- 6:30 p.m. in Saint Benilde Hall on the CBU campus.  The workshop will provide an opportunity for high school students to learn how a corrugated box is designed and tested. Participants will also explore career opportunities in the corrugated packaging industry.

"Due to the success of two week-long packaging summer programs that we hosted in June of 2007, we are delighted to offer this after-school workshop for high school students who could not attend the summer programs.  Even for those who attended the summer programs, there are new things to learn at this workshop," said Dr. Pong Malasri, CBU Packaging Activities Coordinator and Civil and Environmental Engineering professor.

Corrugated packaging is a $25 billion a year industry with over 1,550 corrugated design and manufacturing facilities in the United States and Canada that is looking for creative, talented people.  It is a "green" industry with a strong emphasis on sustainability and the environment.

“Corrugated packaging and display facilities offer a broad range of exciting career opportunities and are located in every community throughout the U. S.    Today’s students who are learning of these career opportunities through CBU/ICPF high school workshops, will be designing, producing, managing and selling the even more environmentally friendly corrugated products of tomorrow,” explains Richard M. Flaherty, President of The International Corrugated Packaging Foundation.

The registration fee is $5 per student.  The registration deadline is October 31.  For a registration form and additional information, check the web site at: http://www.cbu.edu/engineering/packaging or contact Dr. Pong Malasri at pong@cbu.edu or (901) 321-3419.  ###
