Graduate Education Programs
The Graduate Education Program at Christian Brothers University
has one mission, with two levels of program. Our core mission is
to prepare excellent K-12 teachers who will lead in their classrooms
and in their schools and thus add value to the lives and learning
of children and young people even as they also make strong contributions
to the improvement of schools where they teach.
*See Graduate
Programs in Education Bulletin for 2007 - 2008 for
more information.

Office, previously the Evening Program. In order to contact the
Professional Studies Office, please call 901-321-3291.
Deadline for submitting all application
materials is:
Summer: April 15th
Fall: July 15th
Spring: November 1st
*Attention applicants: Please DO
NOT send application materials such as recommendation forms,
essays, or transcripts without first having an application on file.*

The Reading Specialist component
will be added in the near future. We are working to incorporate
the courses that are part of the SMILA Program into a Reading Certification.
The SMILA summer program
incorporates a research based, structured, multisensory approach
designed to help teach children: Phonology, Handwriting, Spelling,
Written Expression, Reading Fluency, Reading Vocabulary, and Reading
Comprehension.
In order to complete the SMILA program,
you must attend two summers. You may receive 6 credits for each
summer attended. The credits may also be applied to our M.Ed. program.
Once our program is submitted and approved by the state, the 12
hours plus an additional course at CBU will enable you to receive
a reading endorsement.
Please contact Rosemary Williams
at (901) 754-1441 for more information on SMILA. A copy of the SMILA
summer program brochure will be available under the Job Board in
Kenrick Hall each summer.
