I am a native
of St. Louis, Missouri. I had a Catholic parochial school
elementary education and later attended Christian Brothers
College High School. It was there that I came in contact with
the Christian Brothers and was inspired to join their ranks.
I received the religious habit in August of 1950 and took
first vows one year later.
After obtaining an undergraduate degree in
History and Economics at St. Mary’s College in Winona,
Minnesota, I began my teaching ministry at De La Salle High
School in Minneapolis. In the following years I served students
in Amarillo, Texas and Wheaton, Illinois. In 1964 my superiors
gave me my first chance at school administration. Thereafter
I was principal at schools in Amarillo, Texas; Paducah, Kentucky;
Omaha, Nebraska; Memphis, Tennessee; and St. Louis, Missouri.
During this time I completed my studies for a Masters Degree
in Education at St. Mary’s College, a Catholic Choirmasters
Certificate from the Gregorian Institute of America, and a
Doctorate in Educational Development from The Ohio State University.
Immediately after obtaining my doctorate
I was sent to the Brothers’ General Headquarters in
Rome for a four-month study program. The next three years
I served on the District Provincial Team as Director of Continuing
Formation. In August of 2000 I celebrated my Golden Jubilee
as a Christian Brother.
Most recently, I arrived in Memphis following
a five-year term as Director of the St. Mary School System
in Paducah, Kentucky. For the first four years at CBU I served
as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Education, teaching part-time
one course each semester and one term each summer. I also
supervised student teachers and the beginning teachers in
the LANCE Program. As of the 2005-2006 school year I have
assumed a part-time position as Chair of the Education Department
and part-time Director of the LANCE Program. I am currently
not engaged in teaching.
