Background information:
Dr.Easson earned his Ph.D. from the University
of Tulsa in 1970. In the '70s he was editor of the international
academic journal, Blake Studies and published widely on the
poet painter, William Blake. In the 80's he was Senior Technical
Editor for McDonnell Douglas Astronautics and Managing
Editor of two publishing houses. At CBU, he was director of
the Writing Center for 12 years, is director of the ECCM Internship
program and the Chair of the Department of Literature and
Languages. His specialities are Rhetoric & Composition
and British Romanticism.
Teaching philosophy:
Every professor at CBU basically teaches
the same thing,
Reading. Every major in the last analysis is about teaching
students to read the specialized texts in their fields. So,
in my view reading is absolutely fundamental. To paraphrase
Huxley, "If you don't read you can't write. If you can't
write, you can't think. If you can't think, then someone else
will do your thinking for you."
What it means to you to be a professor at a Lasallian
university:
I have taught at a variety of other universities
and worked in both business and industry. I can absolutely
say that teaching at Christian Brothers University has been
the most fulfilling experience in my life. LaSalle was a brilliantly
innovative teacher who cared deeply for his students. I think
that these two traits characterize Lasallanism very well.
Research, Publications, and Community Involvement:
I am currently finishing a book on Editing,
and working on a series of workshops for business and industry
in Customer Service and writing. Last year I edited the Monthly
Newspaper of the Shelby County Democratic Party, The Democrat
and authored as well as ghosted many articles in it.
Until this semester I was a member of the Executive Committee
of the Shelby County Democratic Party. While I may volunteer
to work on a select few campaigns during the year, my political
involvement is greatly reduced. Currently, I am working with
St. George's Episcopal Church on two new ministries: The Pilgrimage
Project and a Liturgical Gigantones [Street Puppet] ministry.
For further information about these two efforts check out
the E-lance of St. Georges at
http://www.stgeorgesgermantown.org/lance/eLance.htm
for two articles I wrote regarding these two efforts, "Gigantones
Come To St. George's In A New Puppet Ministry" and "Pilgrimage:
A New Ministry At St. George's Episcopal Church." Note:
please check the archives at this web site for the "The
Week at St. George's: AUG. 30-SEPT. 6, 2005" to find
these articles.
