Dr. Geis joined
the Religion and Philosophy faculty at Christian Brothers
University in the fall of 2005. Prior to coming to CBU, he
served on the faculties of St. Norbert College (De Pere, WI)
– four years as Visiting Assistant Professor of Religious
Studies – and Marquette University (Milwaukee, WI) –
thirteen years, both in the Department of Theology (Lecturer,
1994-2001) and College of Professional Studies (Adjunct Assistant
Professor, 1996-2005).
After earning his B.A. (1980) from Bethel
College (St. Paul, MN) and M.Div. (1985) from Bethel Theological
Seminary (St. Paul, MN), Dr. Geis went on to earn a M.Th.
(1987) in Theology and Ethics from Duke University (Durham,
NC) and a Ph.D. (1995) in Systematic Theology from Marquette
University (Milwaukee, WI). His primary areas of study are
systematic theology and theological ethics, with special interests
in the problem of evil (theodicy), contemporary atheism and
theism, Christology, the theologies of Karl Barth and Dietrich
Bonhoeffer, the life and writings of Simone Weil, and the
religious thought of C. S. Lewis.
Dr. Geis most enjoys time with his wife,
Dee, and daughter, Carly, visiting family, good friends, conversations
with colleagues and students, reading, running, racquetball,
and listening to good music – especially the Beatles,
U2, and the Pat Metheny Group. The years he and his wife spent
in Durham, NC at Duke University explains his rather intense
devotion to Blue Devil basketball.
