Dr. Haught joined the faculty at Christian Brothers University in Fall 2006. He holds degrees from Tulane University (Ph.D. 2004), University of North Texas (M.A. 1996), and Georgetown University (B.A. 1992). He comes to CBU from Newberry College in South Carolina, where he spent the previous two years.

Haught’s research and teaching interests include environmental philosophy, ethics, and aesthetics. In addition to his ongoing research on David Hume’s moral philosophy, he is currently working on projects concerning environmental justice and the relation between virtue and value.

One of the things that drew Dr. Haught to CBU is its Lasallian tradition of attending to the education of the whole person. His view is that courses in philosophy and ethics have a strong role to play in support of this mission, especially as students make the transition from learning-to-the-next-test to learning how to apply philosophical thinking to their own life choices.

Dr. Haught grew up in northern Virginia and Washington, D.C. Feel free to drop by his office to talk (or argue!) with him about anything, especially environmental issues and college basketball (he’s a big Georgetown Hoyas fan—apologies to Dr. Geis).
