I am originally
from the small town of Hamilton, Alabama (If you’ve
ever driven Highway 78 to Birmingham, you passed the exit).
I received my Bachelor’s degree in Music and taught
elementary vocal music in Rome, New York and in Atlanta, Georgia.
I earned my Master’s degree in Counseling at Clark Atlanta
University and then moved to East Tennessee State University
(ETSU) in Johnson City, Tennessee where I was a counselor/academic
advisor. After earning my doctorate in Educational Leadership
from ETSU, I moved to Jackson, Tennessee and joined the faculty
of Lane College. In addition to serving as an assistant professor
in the Education Department, I also served as Chair of the
Department and helped lead the Department through a successful
state accreditation visit. In 2002 I came to CBU as an assistant
professor in the Department of Education.
My research interests include racial awareness
and diversity, school law, and leadership.
