Junior Standing and ITM 153, ITM 291, ITM 251, ITM 351 and approval of advisor

Course Description:
Industry work on an ITM project.

Course Objectives:
To enhance real world IT experience.

Content:
The subject of the internship project should either be totally outside of one's normal job responsibilities, or should be a new IT area if included in the students job responsibilites. A minium of 60 work hours is expected.

Schedule:
The internship lasts for either 8 or 16 calendar weeks corresponding to the term in which the student registers for ITM 400

Deliverables:
A status report must be submitted (via e-mail) weekly to the advisor (the first status report contains the overall project schedule, and the second status report contains the approach/design). The final report (in electronic format: e-mail attachments, diskette, or zip drive) contains a presentation in M/S PowerPoint format (about 20 slides), and a document in M/S Word format (about 20 pages). The document must be in either MLA or APA format and contain a table of contents, executive summary, body, references, and appendix. The body must contain sections for project description, needs analysis and cost/benefit analysis, requirements description and itemization, project schedule, overall design or approach, detail design or appraoch, implementation, testing/analysis/results, and conclusions. The appendix must contain all design and implementation material including design drawings and program code. A letter of completion from the student's supervisor must be turned in with the final report. All deliverables must be turned in by midnight on the Friday before the due date for grades in that term.

Procedure:
A student wanting to do an internship should submit a current resume and proposal to his chosen faculty director. The proposal should be signed by the student's work supervisor and supervisor contact information must be provided. The proposal must describe the company and the sub unit of the company (ie department), what the student will be doing, what the student will learn, and what the expected benefit is to the company. The faculty director will then complete the necessary form and route same for approvals. When the form gets to the registra, the student will be enrolled in ITM 400. An ITM major may take two such intership, however, each must be with a different organization.

Grading is P (pass) or F (fail)
