Department Overview

The Department of Management, Marketing and Economics at Christian Brothers University offers programs leading to the Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Business with oncentrations in either Marketing or Management and a minor in Economics. These programs are designed to prepare students for successful careers in a variety of business fields. In addition, these programs provide students with the opportunity to pursue graduate studies leading to a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree or Law Degree (LLD).

Students will receive a general background in the field of business in addition to the 27 credit hours they will receive in either management or marketing concentration courses. Students seeking a minor in Economics must complete 18 hours of upper division courses.

Management concentration courses include such areas as human resource management, production/operations management, international business, organizational behavior, and a senior seminar, which will allow graduating seniors, the ability to look at contemporary issues in management.

Marketing concentration courses include marketing research, sales and selling, consumer behavior, promotional strategies, business to business marketing, entrepreneurship, and a senior policy class that aids in the student’s preparation for the real world of marketing.

Economics courses for the minor include money and banking, intermediate theory courses in macroeconomics and microeconomics, managerial economics, international trade and finance, and a course reserved for special topics that changes each time it is offered.

To assure success, each student will receive individual attention from their advisor in designing a program that fits his or her needs.

  • Faculty
    The faculty members in the department have come from successful careers in their field of expertise and have maintained close working relationships with professionals in those areas. Most of the faculty are continuously involved in consulting and applied research.
  • Course Development:
    In an effort to keep students current with contemporary changes in the fields of Economics, Marketing or Management, the department is constantly reviewing the curriculum for possible changes that will enhance the student’s educational experience. For example, new opportunities for the student in the areas of international management and entrepreneurship have recently been added.

Special Features:

  • Facilities:
    All classrooms and computer labs are equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, including: computer workstations with access to the internet; multi-media presentation equipment, and comfortable seating that is easily rearranged for group activities.
  • Internships:
    Many of our students will find opportunities to work in their chosen field through our internship program. This program is designed individually for the student’s needs and allows the student to earn academic credit while working in a job related to their area of concentration.
  • International Travel:
    At various times in the course of the year, students may have the opportunity to travel abroad. The Office for International Initiatives sponsors educational trips to various countries, including Spain, Ireland, Italy, and England.

Outcomes and Opportunities

Job opportunities are excellent for Marketing and Management graduates. Many students have jobs before graduation, often as the result of the internship program. Recent graduates have taken jobs in both the public and private sector and have found many opportunities in the constantly growing service industries. Our recent graduates have gone to work in fields such as banking, health care, transportation, retail operations, insurance, sales, and management consulting.
