CBU Spring 2009 Concert Series Promises to Enchant Listeners

Memphis- Christian Brothers University (CBU) announces its 2009 Spring Concert Series. Tommy Gaines, Assistant Professor of Music, will conduct the concerts which include his students, the CB Singers and piano students of Dr. Sharon Momany. Mark your calendar to attend these entertaining musical events as they are sure to make the spring a musical memory.

Friday, April 17, 2009 - 7:30 p.m. - Spain Auditorium on the CBU Campus

"An Evening Recital"
An evening of vocal and piano selections from the 15th to the 21st centuries including selections by Mozart, Brahms and other composers including opera arias, Italian, German, French and English art songs and piano selections ranging from the classical genre to pop selections. This recital features voice students of Tommy Gaines and piano students of Dr. Sharon Momany.

Sunday, April 19, 2009 - 3:00 p.m. - Spain Auditorium on the CBU Campus
"A Toast to the Ladies" featuring Russell Brandon, tenor
A voice recital by senior Russell Brandon featuring songs from the early Baroque to the Modern period including arts songs, arias and musical theatre selections in celebration of ladies and all of their charming ways!

Sunday, April 26, 2009 - 3:00 p.m. - Spain Auditorium on the CBU Campus
"A Woman's Life and Love" featuring Chelsea Chandler, mezzo-soprano
A voice recital by senior Chelsea Chandler featuring an eclectic mix of songs that portray the ups and downs of a woman trying to find true love.

Friday, May 1, 2009- 7:30 p.m. - University Theater on the CBU Campus
"Songs of a Day"
This annual spring concert is "a choral journey from morning until nightfall as told in music that vividly depicts the evolution of a beautiful day for anyone to experience." Musical works by John Rutter, Victor Johnson and Eugene Butler will be performed by the CB Singers. In addition, poems by Sara Teasdale and Robert Frost will be set to music. This program is given in dedication and memory of Brother Vincent Malham, founding director of the CB Singers and past President of the University, in loving tribute to all of his support for the group.
