CBU Hosts College SEARCH Retreat
Over 60 college students from four universities participate

Memphis – Over 60 college students from Christian Brothers University (CBU), the University of Memphis, Rhodes College, and Southwest Tennessee Community College attended the fourth annual Memphis Diocese College SEARCH Retreat at John Kyle State Park in Sardis, MS on November 18-20th.

Participants gathered to reflect on the different aspects of the Christian faith and the state of their own individual religious journey. The theme for the student led retreat was "Signs: Searching for Christian Maturity." Team-building activities, student shared talks and small group discussions, reflection and meditation times were based around the retreat theme.

“College SEARCH was a huge success this year thanks to the cooperation between all involved,” notes Wilson Phillips, Co-Director of CBU Campus Ministry. “With a devoted SEARCH team, a dedicated team of adults, and many first-time searchers, the weekend exceeded all expectations.  This weekend brought together students from all different backgrounds seeking one goal: to grow closer in their faith journey.  The lasting friendships and memories are just the perks.”

College SEARCH is an opportunity for students to get away from school and have a chance to reflect on how they are doing with God, friends and family. It gives college students the opportunity to meet new people and share and grow in their faith. Activities, the sacrament of reconciliation, mass and adoration were all a part of the weekend--designed for students to get to know themselves, each other and Christ better.

Student table discussion leader, Michael J. Berry explains, “It was a fun and rewarding experience. I learned a lot from participating, about myself and others, through the discussions and the talks given over the weekend. We had terrific weather and a positive retreat.”

The College SEARCH Retreat is open to college students in Memphis and throughout the state of Tennessee. This year’s retreat was a huge success, thanks in part to the support of several Memphis Diocese parishes and the faculty, staff and community of the Christian Brothers at CBU. Their support made it possible for all interested students to attend as no student was turned away due to lack of funds.

Participants can stay active in the College SEARCH program by returning to help organize and work future retreats. For more information about College SEARCH, contact Margretta daLomba Dobbs, CBU Director of Campus Ministry at mdobbs1@cbu.edu or call (901) 321-3509.   ###
