Overview
In keeping with the longstanding Lasallian tradition of teaching excellence, the Department of Education offers undergraduate and graduate programs to prepare students for initial teaching licensure and also graduate programs for those already licensed and experienced as teachers.

Undergraduate programs in the Department of Education consist of Child Development, Cultural Studies, Liberal Studies, and Special Education (beginning in Fall 2009). Christian Brothers University also offers a 5th-year program that enables students to major in a specialty area (English, history, math, or science) and obtain teacher licensure at the graduate level as well as being able to earn licenses to teach pre-K-3, K-6, 4-8, 7-12, and visual arts K-12. This program culminates in earning a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT). CBU's undergraduate program gives priority to intensive study in the arts and sciences first, followed by a focus on pedagogy while preparing for the MAT, which can be begun during the student's senior year.

Graduate programs include the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT), Master of Education (M.Ed.), and Master of Science in Educational Leadership (MSEL). The MAT is an available initial teaching licensure for individuals who already hold a bachelor's degree. The M.Ed. is for previously licensed teachers seeking an advanced degree with a teacher leadership focus. The MSEL is for experienced teachers aspiring to move into school administration and supervision.
