Dr. Asit Ray is a professor of chemical engineering at CBU. He earned his Ph.D. from Lehigh University and has over 20 years of teaching/research experience at Auburn and CBU. Dr. Ray spent seven years in the polymer industry, and was four times a NASA/ASEE Summer Faculty Fellow engaging in polymer research at NASA Kennedy Space Center and Langley Research Center. He is actively engaged in laboratory research in polymeric and biomaterials in collaboration with professors from the University of Memphis and Rhodes College and has published over fifteen refereed papers.

Dr. Ray co-teaches packaging classes with Mr. Yongquan Zhou. He has chaired the Packaging Sessions and presented packaging-related papers at the MAESC conferences. He was also the opening speaker at the 2007 Medical Device Packaging workshop jointly hosted by CBU Packaging and Institute of Packaging Professionals (IoPP). He also serves as the Coordinator of the Packaging Engineering Certificate and Labs at CBU and is a member of IoPP. He was recognized as the 2003 Featured Engineering Faculty by the School of Engineering at CBU.

In the fall of 2010, he developed/presented Overview of Medical Device Packaging for Non Packaging Personnel with the help of Robert Phaneuf, a Packaging Manager from Wright Medical Technology. In the spring of 2011, he was the associate seminar speaker with Dr. Dave Vogel of Smith and Nephew on Sterilization in Medical Device Industry. Both of these seminars were offered by the CBU Packaging Consortium and were well-attended by professionals from the local medical device industry. He is currently engaged in two research projects in healthcare packaging sponsored by the CBU Packaging Consortium.

Dr. Ray is an avid mountain hiker (trekker). He has hiked to the highest points of almost all the states east of the Mississippi River, the Grand Canyon, Half Dome in Yosemite National Park, and Mt. Whitney (highest point in continental USA minus Alaska).  He has extended his trekking adventures to the Himalayas in Nepal and India and the Karakorums  in Pakistan. He has completed the following world class treks:  Everest Base Camp/Kalapatthar, Gokyo-Everest, Annapurna Circuit in Nepal Himalayas; Gochela Pass at the base of Kangchenjungha (K3) in Sikkim Himalayas, India, and K2 base Camp- Concordia in Karakorum, Pakistan.
