Length of service at CBU: Dr. Moore began teaching at CBU in 2011.
Courses taught:
BIOL 111 Principles of Biology; BIOL 216 Botany; BIOL 346 Evolution; and BIOL 412 Ecology.
Formal Education: Dr. Moore received his B.S. in Biology from West Virginia State College (now University) in Institute, WV. He then moved to the tarheel state and received his M.S. degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He obtained a Ph.D. from the University of Memphis under the supervision of Drs. Scott Franklin and Jack Grubaugh.
Background:
Dr. Moore grew up in the beautiful hills of West Virginia deep in the heart of coal country. He has always been an avid outdoorsman and firmly believes in conservation efforts to preserve the remaining wildlands we have left.
Professional Interests:
Dr. Moore continues work on the Mississippi River (which was the focus of his dissertation work), examining the factors that control plant community assembly. He is also eager to begin work on exotic plant species (master’s work) here in the Mid-South with students. Of interest are the factors that control exotic species spread and the role of disturbance in facilitating their spread.
Service:
Dr. Moore was recently elected as Vice-Chair of the Vegetation Section for the Ecological Society of America, in which he will serve two years as vice chair and another two as chair. He also continually receives requests to peer-review
manuscripts. He looks forward for the opportunity to serve the department of Biology and the Christian Brothers community.
Interests:
Dr. Moore enjoys running daily with his two dogs, and when the opportunity arises, riding his mountain bike. He and his wife also enjoy traveling. They frequently spend at least one week per summer in Maine enjoying the family camp. Their goal is to visit every state in the U.S. at least once.
