"I began working sculpturally in the late 1960s, creating small figures in clay that I dug locally and fired in a salt kiln I built myself. These figures won numerous awards in ensuing years and were shown extensively in solo and group exhibitions. In about 1992, however, for financial reasons, I turned from these diminutive clay figures to the design of garden sculptures, fountains, and monuments for an ornamental concrete company, and to the creation of commissioned bronze portraits and figures. However, as I now enter my eighties, I have recently resumed concentration on my more personal work and am pleased to present here at Christian Brothers University a new collection of the clay figures that have always been my primary expressive focus and that have been for many years the basis for my reputation as an artist."
