The Art of Dorothy Sachritz

Color and form. Light and shadow. These make the drama and sense of awe that I feel from the natural world around me. The wonder of the earth and all that grows from it are breath-taking to me, and I feel compelled to capture this so that others can share this experience. I capture the intensity of color and contrasts these wonders provide.

The fruit of the earth, in whatever form, appears simple but is not. The work can be described as abstract realism. The presentation may be simple and is usually abstract in composition, yet representational. I find the earth and sky, in their many manifestations, equally compelling. Many people consider "earth tones" to be dull and uninteresting. I find them dramatic and strong. These are the qualities I capture in my paintings.

The colors are intense even when I use a limited palette. Acrylic is my medium of choice. It allows me to vary the texture and the surface of the painting. The quick drying time makes it possible to see just where the work is going. I layer colors and use the opaque and transparent qualities of various pigments to create the vibrancy of the paintings.

The landscapes as well as my botanical and still life pieces have sharp contrasts, shadows, and lines. These characteristics further contribute to the overall brightness and character of my work.
