What's RefWorks?
-
RefWorks is a web-based bibliographic citation manager.
-
Use it to organize research--both personal and in collaboration with others, create personal databases, and generate bibliographies in APA, MLA, Turabian, and hundreds of other styles.
-
RefWorks is available to all CBU faculty, staff, and students.
Students have life-long access, so it is available to alumni as well.
First Step: Registering with RefWorks
While available to all at CBU, you must first register an account with RefWorks.
-
Connect to
RefWorks (http://ezproxy.cbu.edu:9000/login?url=http://www.refworks.com/Refworks/). This is the log-in page for Christian Brothers University,* and you must use it to set up your account.
If you get a screen saying that EZproxy is an unsecure server, just add it as an exception (the screen will lead you through that process).
-
Click "Sign up for an individual account."
-
Fill in the form. Use anything you choose for your username and password. (The username and password does not have to match your CBU email login.)
-
Submit the form. You'll receive a confirmation email with your username and password records as well as the Group Code, which you'll use whenever you need to access RefWorks from off campus.
Second Step: Creating a Database
Once registered, you'll be able to access your RefWorks account through any Internet connection. You do not have to be on campus. You could be visiting another school, using their online resources, and you'll still be able to log into your own RefWorks account to save references and make notes.
However, until you've loaded references, you can't make RefWorks do anything for you.

Get Help:
-
-
For personal help, Plough Library will be offering RefWorks classes, or you may contact Kay Cunningham (email:
kay.cunningham@cbu.edu) to set up an appointment to get you started.
-
If you're a do-it-yourselfer, check out the
webinars
provided by RefWorks-COS (We are on the Version 2.0 interface, if you are trying to decide which webinars to select).
-
The Export and Import Tips page is a set of customized instructions for using RefWorks in conjunction with CBU's collection of online resources. Over time, more customized help pages will be added to the Library's website.
*You can continue to use this page to login and avoid using the Group Code when off-campus, or you can simply go to
http://www.refworks.com and connect using the Group Code. The Group Code will be included in the confirmation email you receive at registration.
