Position: Veteran Services Coordinator / Admissions Counselor
Department: Graduate & Professional Studies
Reports To: Director of Graduate & Professional Studies

Job Purpose:
Reporting to the Director of Graduate & Professional Studies, the Veteran Services Coordinator / Admissions Counselor is responsible for developing and maintaining a positive relationship with applicants (primarily veteran adult students at both the graduate and undergraduate level) during all parts of the application/recruiting process. He/She also is responsible for providing expertise regarding the GI Bill and Financial Aid options to veteran applicants while working closely with the CBU departments of Student Financial Assistance, Administration and Finance and the Office of the Registrar. The Coordinator will also work within the guidelines presented by the national and state Departments of Veteran Affairs to facilitate ease of application and enrollment and to promote veteran services offered at CBU.

Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
• Develop an understanding of the enrollment process at Christian Brothers University and actively participate in that process as the point person for developing relationships with veteran and non-veteran applicants.
• Serve as a "One Stop Shop" for incoming veteran students from application, to information processing, to acceptance and enrollment. As determined by the Director of Graduate & Professional Studies, achieve all contact goals with applicants for each term.
• Facilitate daily business in the Veteran Services Office. This includes appointments, interviews, ongoing maintenance of applicants’ files and other related activities. Assist with the daily business in the Graduate & Professional Studies department as required by the Director of Graduate & Professional Studies.
• Review applications for admission, supporting documents and make decisions on admission based on academic information submitted. Refer applicants who do not meet criteria for admission to the Director of Academics, Dean, and/or the Admissions Committee.
• Maintain and document regular monthly contact and achieve contact goals with applicants, primarily via e-mail or letter, but also via phone to assist with the application process and provide information as required.
• Become familiar and be able to navigate within admissions module of Banner.
• Maintain effective communication with the Departments of Financial Aid, Registrar and Business Office as necessary to facilitate their efforts in the application process. Accurately counsel students and families on financial aid packages and calculate out of pocket expenses.
• Serve as the University’s community liaison for military affairs.
• Work closely with the Department of Veteran Affairs to understand the specialized needs of veteran students. Communicate regularly with the University Counseling Center to provide services as needed for veteran students.
• Travel where designated to represent the University and support recruiting efforts. This includes corporate visits, college fairs and conferences. Analyze yearly activity and use data to plan travel for the following years based on evaluation of the yearly activity.
• Attend specialized training as required by the Director of Graduate & Professional Studies.
• Represent the University to all constituents using excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• This position involves non-traditional hours of evenings and occasional weekends.
• Assist the Dean of Graduate & Professional Studies with events as needed.
• Accomplish other tasks consistent with providing excellent student service and efficient enrollment processes as assigned by the Director of Graduate & Professional Studies.

Job Qualifications/Requirements:
• A minimum of a Bachelor's degree is required
• Individuals with personal military service or prior university experience with Veteran Affairs are preferred
• A valid driver’s license is also required.

Working Conditions:
• Full time: Monday-Wednesday 8:30-5:00, Thursday 10:00-6:30, Friday 8:30-4:30. Office Setting
• Some weekends required
