Copyright-Friendly eReading Lists
Use the following guidelines to create copyright-friendly links to course readings available in Plough Library's electronic resources.
Link Directly to Articles
- Many databases provide direct links to items, aka stable URLs, persistent links, or permalinks.
- Wherever you find one, you can use it as a shortcut to the article itself.
- Not all databases provide full text, and not all full text databases provide stable URLs.
- You will need to check any links you add to a reading list periodically to make sure they haven't changed.
Off-Campus Access
- As provided by many databases, stable URLs alone will not work from off-campus.
- For off-campus access, the EZproxy prefix (below) must precede the stable URL in the link you create.
- NOTE: EBSCOHost, the vendor providing a large number of our fulltext databases includes CBU's EZproxy prefix in their permalinks so you can simply copy-and-paste them.
- If you need to include it, the EZproxy prefix is:
http://ezproxy.cbu.edu:9000/login?url=
- The stable URL should come behind the equal sign without any break or spacing. For example:
http://ezproxy.cbu.edu:9000/login?url=http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=aph&AN=45722152&site=ehost-live&scope=site
Tips
- For your reading list, you may prefer to hide long URLs. If so, hyperlink selected text, such as the title of the article, to give the page a cleaner appearance.
- If you create a reading list in Microsoft Word, save the file as a Web Page, or in html format. The web page can then be loaded into e-courseware for students to access. (Web pages are recommended because linked Word documents (.doc format) do not work consistently when remote access is involved.)
