The Mechanical Engineering Department at CBU offers an ABET accredited Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. The department is made up of a diverse faculty with the expertise necessary to expose our students to beyond state-of-the-art principles. Within the two traditional concentrations of energy systems and solid mechanics lie a great number of sub-specialties of interest to our faculty. Students receive the benefit of instruction in areas from forensics, to the next generation of atmospheric and space propulsion systems, to the latest in composite materials.

Our students are continuing a winning tradition with their historically superior performances at the American Society of Mechanical Engineers' regional student conferences, as well as the Great American Moon Buggy Race held at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center. Through participation in these events, students hone their skills in areas such as oral presentations, written communication, fabrication, and real-time problem solving.

Maintaining a link with industry is important to both student learning and departmental growth. All ME seniors complete a capstone design project, performed over two consecutive semesters, sponsored by a variety of industrial partners. Many students also take advantage of our internship program, through which they receive credit toward graduation by completing a one-semester internship under the supervision of an engineer in a related industry.
