Mission and Institutional
Goals of Christian Brothers University
Christian Brothers University is a Catholic institution of higher
education in the tradition of the Christian Brothers. It is a private,
comprehensive university which
emphasizes excellence in teaching and individualized attention to the whole
person in a values oriented, inter-faith educational community. The University
prepares students for professional careers and advanced study in the arts and
sciences, business, engineering and for lives of moral responsibility and
constructive community involvement.
Institutional Goals
In pursuit of its mission, Christian Brothers University aims
specifically to:
1.
bring
within the reach of all its students an opportunity for higher education
founded on Judeo-Christian principles, and particularly, to develop persons who
think, judge, and act according to the principles enunciated by enlightened
ethical and religious beliefs;
2.
provide
programs which teach and encourage students to be active, informed, interested,
and concerned citizens with a global
perspective and a strong sense of justice and responsibility;
3.
assist in
the personal, spiritual, and academic development of students by fostering
interaction, dialogue and opportunities for community services involving
students, faculty, and staff members;
4.
maintain a
commitment to the ideals of free inquiry, pursuit of truth, and respect for all
people;
5.
acquaint
students with fundamental knowledge in the humanities, social sciences,
physical sciences, and mathematics essential to an understanding of self and of
the world in which they live;
6.
cultivate
the skills of inquiry, reasoning, and communication which allow students to
continue the process of intellectual growth;
7.
develop
students capabilities for the intelligent and responsible use of information
technology;
8.
assist the
students in choosing and preparing for careers through counseling, opportunities
for internships, pre-professional programs, and career placement;
9.
provide
facilities, programs, and services which will encourage students academic,
religious, social, moral, and cultural growth;
10.
sustain and
promote the Catholic and Lasallian heritage of the University while welcoming
persons from diverse religious faiths and social backgrounds and serving as a
center for inter-faith dialogue;
11.
contribute,
as an urban institution of higher learning, a variety of services related to
facilities and personnel which will benefit the people and institutions of the
community;
12.
encourage
and support lifelong learning and the continuing spiritual and professional
development of students, alumni, faculty, and staff.
A Guide to Transferring to CBU
Step One: Selecting A Major
Christian Brothers University
offers bachelor degrees in four different schools:
1) School of Arts,
2) School of Business,
3) School of Engineering, and
4) School of Sciences.
Degrees in all four schools can be
obtained in the Day Program. The
Evening Program presents an accelerated curriculum through which a student has
an opportunity to earn a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, a
Bachelor of Arts in Applied Psychology or Psychology, as well as a Bachelor of
Arts in Human Development by attending classes at times that are compatible
with full employment.
A complete listing of various
degree programs can be found in the University catalog. Once a major has been selected, this
transfer agreement will assist in determining what State Tech courses will
transfer into the degree program selected.
Step Two: Applying for Admission
Students wishing to transfer to
CBU will be considered if they are in good standing at the college of last
attendance.
Contact the Office of Day or
Evening Admissions to discuss transfer interest and request application
materials. Students interested in
pursuing a degree in business at night should contact the Evening Program
Office. Applicants must submit the following items:
· a completed application,
· a one time only, non-refundable $25.00 application fee,
· complete transcripts from all colleges attended,
· ACT or SAT scores; high school transcript, as requested, and
· a completed Health Form.
Step Three: Understanding How
Credits Transfer from
Other Institutions
1. To fulfill residency requirements, 35 of the
last 70 hours and at least 25% of total hours applied toward a degree must be
earned at CBU. See school or department requirements in the University catalog
for any further restrictions on courses in the major area. For optional minor, 50% of required courses
must be taken at CBU.
2. Only courses with grades of "C" or
better which apply to the student's degree requirements will be accepted for
transfer from other accredited institutions.
3. Only the hours of credit in accepted courses will be
posted on the student's
permanent record, with no grade point
average transferring from other
institutions.
An
admissions counselor will be assigned to each interested student who
contacts either the Day or
Evening Admissions Office.
