Peer Counselors

The Peer Counseling Program is conducted each fall for all incoming freshmen. The Peer Counselors are specially selected upper-class students who are trained and prepared to help students in their transition and adaptation to college life and to the Christian Brothers University community. To be a Peer Counselor, it is important that you:

  • You LOVE CBU, and you want to tell the world (especially incoming freshmen)!
  • You’re available Tuesdays and Thursdays in the fall semester.
  • You embrace the opportunity to lead a discussion or make a presentation. (Specifically, you’re excited about the opportunity to conduct CBU 101 classes with approximately 13 freshmen on Tuesdays).
  • You love maroon polos. (Yep, there’s a uniform.)
  • You want to develop as a leader, and therefore can sign up for CBU 300/301: Peer Counselor Leadership Development I/II on Thursday afternoons. (You will learn skills that help you in teaching CBU 101…and life.)
  • You are willing to eat lunch with your CBU 101, whether it’s in Alfonso or elsewhere, on a semi-regular basis!
  • You want to mentor your CBU 101 students by sending text messages, emails, or phone calls!
  • You are positive, a problem solver, and FUN!
  • You are a responsible college student, and you’re comfortable talking with your CBU 101 class about being a responsible college student.
  • You are available to be on campus for move-in and Welcome Weekend, August 16-18.
  • You look forward to reading The Other Wes Moore, the Fresh Reads book for the Class of 2017.
