Dorm Network Settings
How to configure Windows XP for the CBU
network
BE SURE THAT YOU HAVE FILLED OUT AND TURNED IN
A DORM NETWORK REQUEST
FORM TO THE HELPDESK BEFORE PROCEEDING.
1. Bring up the "Local Area Connection Status" Window:
-
Go to the Start Menu
-
Click on "Connect To"
-
Click on "Show all Network Connections"
-
Double-click on "Local Area Connection"
-
The Local Area Connection Status Window will appear,
Click on the "Properties" button.

2. Bring up the "Local Area Connection Properties"
window:
-
Click on the "Properties" box in the "Local
Area Connection Status" window
-
Scroll to the bottom of the window and
look for the option "Internet Protocol
(TCP/IP)" (See Figure 2)

Once you have located the "Internet Protocol
(TCP/IP)" double-click on it to open the
"Properties" for it, or highlight the item and
click "Properties"

3. Configure your "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties"
to work with our LAN configuration:
-
Click the "Obtain an IP address automatically"
option. (See Figure 3)
-
Click the "Obtain DNS server
address automatically" option.
(See Figure 3)
-
Click on the "Ok" button when you have made
the configurations, DON'T click the
"Cancel" option or you will not have successfully
made the changes. "Ok" out of the windows.
