Dorm Network Settings
How to configure Windows 95/98/Me for the CBU network

BE SURE THAT YOU HAVE FILLED OUT AND TURNED IN A DORM NETWORK REQUEST
FORM TO THE HELPDESK BEFORE PROCEEDING.


1. First go to the Start Button: 2. Click on the IP ADDRESS tab.
  • Click on "Obtain an IP ADDRESS 

  • Automatically" (See Figure 2)
3. Click on the GATEWAY tab:
  • If there is NO entry in the 

  • "Installed Gateways" box,  proceed to the
    DNS Configurations in step 4:
  • If there is an entry in the 

  • "Installed Gateways" box:
  • Then highlight the number
  • Click on Remove
  • Repeat the process until all 

  • the IP’s are removed from the box
4. Click on the DNS CONFIGURATION tab:
  • Click on ENABLE DNS
  • For Host, type in your login name
  • For Domain, type: cbu.edu
  • Click OK
  • Click OK again
  • Click YES to restart your computer. 

  • (Your computer should prompt you to restart, 
    otherwise repeat steps 1 through 4)
5. When your computer comes back up,
          be sure to test the following: 
  • go to START,
  • click on RUN
  • type winipcfg
  • You must choose your Ethernet card 

  • from the dropdown menu, as 
    shown in the picture on the right. 
  • Verify that you have a valid IP address. 

  • Your IP Address should start with 192.168.###.###. 
    (As opposed to the 198.78.###.### ) (See Figure 3)
  • Click Release All
  • Click Renew All (Be sure you got your IP Address back)
  • click OK
  • If you get a valid  IP then go to START
  • click on RUN
  • type: telnet sheba

  • (You should now be able to log in to the server.)
