3. Why do I receive multiple copies of a message I have already read and possibly deleted?

The most common reason for this is that the leave messages on server data file has become corrupted. This happens occasionally when you have chosen to leave your email messages on the server. Another cause would be multiple personalities using the same email account.

If you do not have multiple personalities checking the same account, close Eudora, find and delete the LMOS.DAT file. This file is located in the Spool directory, it's purpose is to keep a list of all the messages that you have downloaded from the server in the past. It will be recreated the next time you check for mail. Eudora will then download ALL the mail which is available on the POP server during the next mail check after deleting the LMOS file but the file should keep track of email correctly from that point on unless it gets corrupted again.

The default location of the file for Windows 2000 is C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Qualcomm\Eudora\spool\LMOS.DAT

If you have continual problems with this file being corrupted, consider either changing to IMAP instead of POP or change the setting Tools->Options->Incoming Mail->Leave mail on server from checked to unchecked.

4. Why is the message of the highlighted email displayed at the bottom of the screen?

This is called the preview pane. If you don't want it to be displayed, follow these instructions:
Tools->Options->Viewing Mail
Uncheck "Show message preview pane"
back to the top

5. I have configured Eudora to use IMAP. After I trash an email it does not go away but turns red. How do I get a trashed email to go away?

This happens if you have the Incoming Mail option marked "When I delete a message mark it as deleted" in Tools->Options. To get rid of these deleted messages in Eudora you need to purge the messages. Execute the menu option of Message->Purge Messages. An easier way to handle this is to create a customized button on the top of Eudora so that you can click the button instead of following the Message->Purge Messages menu option.
Now all you have to do is click this button to purge any deleted emails marked in red from the current window.
