Dorm Network Settings
How to configure Windows 2000 for the CBU network

BE SURE THAT YOU HAVE FILLED OUT AND TURNED IN A DORM NETWORK REQUEST
FORM TO THE HELPDESK BEFORE PROCEEDING.


1. First go to the Start Button:
  • Go to Settings.
    Click on Control Panel.

  • Double Click on the Network and Dial-up Connection Icon. (Figure 1)

  • Double Click once on Local Area Connection Icon. (Figure 2)
  • Click Properties.

2. Make sure both the Client for Microsoft Network and Internet Protocol (TCP/IP are both checked. Move your cursor down until the Client for Microsoft Network is highlighted: (Figure 3)

  • Click on Properties. (Figure 4)
  • Make sure both Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically radio button is clicked.
  • Click OK on that screen, then click OK on the next screen.
  • Click on Close on that screen, then click on the X in the upper right hand corner of the Control Panel window.
3. At this point you need to reboot your computer:
  • When your computer comes back up you will need to verify that you have a valid IP address.
  • To check your IP address, click on Start, Programs, Accessories, then Command Prompt
  • At the dos prompt type in ipconfig /all and press the enter key (Figure 5)

  • Look for the IP Address. (Figure 6)
  • Your IP Address should start with 192.168.###.###.
    (As opposed to the 198.78.###.### )
  • If you have a correct IP address, you are now on the network
