Information for Guests and Families
One graduation ceremony will be held for both master's and bachelor's degree recipients on Signaigo Field at 9:00 a.m. You should plan to arrive and be seated at Sinaigo Field by 8:30 a.m. Commencement will begin promptly at 9:00 a.m. and is estimated to last two hours.
Guests with Disabilities or Mobility Limitations
Guests with disabilities or mobility limitations should park in the Stritch Lot next to the chapel and Brothers' residence, accessible from Avery Avenue. Golf-cart shuttles will be available to transport guests from the lot to their seating on the soccer field. In the event that the Stritch Lot becomes full, disabled guests should enter the Central Lot and inform the personnel at the entrance that they require parking and shuttle service.
Parking permits are not required on Commencement day. See the Commencement Parking Map for information on where to go.
Seating for the 2019 Commencement on Signaigo Field is open, and tickets are not required. If an inclement weather call is made, each graduate will receive an specific amount of rain tickets. All guests must have a ticket to enter the alternate venue.
Printed programs containing the names of graduates, a list of faculty, and other information about Commencement will be distributed on Commencement day. Graduates' programs will be on their chairs. Guests will be able to pick up their programs as they enter the Commencement area (two per family).
Except for registered members of the media and CBU staff, cameras and video equipment are not allowed in the graduate area during the ceremony. Guests are requested to be considerate of the graduates and other guests and remain in the public seating areas throughout Commencement exercises.
Restrooms in nearby buildings surrounding the Commencement Area will be open, including the Thomas Center and Nolan Engineering Center. Maps of open restrooms will be available at many locations during Commencement. Portable restrooms are located at the top of stairs leading to Signaigo Field.
Smoking is prohibited on CBU's campus, except for designated smoking areas.
Please silence cell phones and personal electronic devices during the ceremony.
Dogs and other animals, other than service animals, are not permitted at Commencement or on CBU grounds on Commencement day.
Pursuant to CBU administrative policy, alcoholic beverages are not allowed in or around the Commencement exercises. All violators of this policy will be asked, at the least, to dispose of their open containers and remaining beverages.
An emergency first aid station will be set up near the northeast side of Signaigo Field. Campus Safety Officers will be on duty in the Commencement area to assist with first aid, emergencies, and lost and found. Look for signage on Commencement day.
The Memphis weather is very variable in mid-May. It may be cool, or it could be very warm, and there is little shade available at the Commencement site.
Our team is monitoring the weather. If weather conditions worsen and prevent an outdoor ceremony, an email and text message will be sent to the entire CBU family, and we will post an announcement here. This announcement would come no later than 6:30 a.m. on Saturday morning. If no announcement is made, assume that the ceremony will be held outside as scheduled.
Per fire marshal regulations, all guests are required to have tickets to enter the alternate rain site. Unfortunately, there are no tickets available above the four you receive. Participating faculty, staff, and dignitaries will not be required to have tickets.
For those without tickets who are unable to access the rain site, CBU will provide a live broadcast of the ceremony in Spain Auditorium, Buckman Hall on CBU's campus. No tickets are required. The mobile-friendly live stream will also be available to those who want to watch remotely via the web.
We will make every possible effort to hold the graduation ceremony outside. An announcement will be made only if weather forces the ceremony inside. Your understanding is appreciated.
