International Student Spotlight: Federico Pichetto

Federico Pichetto

My last name is often mispronounced by Americans: it’s Pichetto (Piketto is the way to pronounce it)

What does your name mean in Italian? My name means “powerful in ensure peace"
Hometown: Occhieppo Inferiore, BI, Italy
Major: Engineering Management
Class Year:
Tell us about yourself:
I’m Italian, and I’m proud to be on the golf team at CBU.
Why did you choose to come to CBU?
I wanted to come to the United States to play golf and study at the same time; something that is impossible to do in Italy, because we don’t have colleges with sports teams, but just universities where the studies are hard and you don’t have time for a hobby or extracurricular activity. And a company located in Kansas City helped me find a school in the United States to play golf. And CBU golf coach, David Belcher was the first one to contact me. Also, since I’ve done 8 years in a Brother School and I enjoyed the “environment”, it was an easy decision to come to CBU.
What advice do you have for new international students to help them adjust to life in the US?
Coming to the United States wasnt an easy choice to make, but now I’m happy to be here. I enjoyed learning about American culture and my English-speaking skills have improved tremendously. I would tell them to stay in the dorms at least their first year because it will be easy to make friends this way. The people you meet will introduce you to more people.
What do you enjoy most about being an international student athlete at CBU?

I’m one of the few international student athletes and I think that’s awesome! Representing CBU as an athlete is cool and its a plus to be an international student as well. Being an international student athlete is amazing.
If CBU students visited Italy, where should they go and why?

They should go to Rome to see “caput mundi,” the best town in the world (pictured in the background above). Then if they love the beach and the sea, the best places to go are Sardinia and Sicily. If they enjoy sight-seeing in the mountains they should go to the Alps, especially in the east part.
What is the name of your favorite restaurant in Memphis? And why?
It’s probably Gus’s, because, since I’ve been here I realized how much I love fried chicken.
What is your favorite subject at CBU and why? Do you have a favorite professor?
I like going to math class, but right now physics is at the top of my list, probably because I love scientific classes. In addition, I enjoy all my professors, but Dr. Juan Carlos Olabe-Basogain, Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering. is my favorite.
