Thermoforming Lab

Location:
St. Benilde Hall #103

Faculty Supervisor:
Dr. Asit Ray

Lab Description:

Plastic Ingenuity of Cross Plains, Wisconsin, the national leader in thermoformed packaging, donated a thermoforming machine valued at $95,000 to Christian Brothers University (CBU) in the spring of 2008. This donation to CBU’s packaging laboratory expands the capabilities of the lab while providing students with additional hands-on experience. The lab is utilized for research and development in the areas of medical device and food packaging.

The thermoformer has been used to make a plastic clamshell package for the packaging program's promotional materials, which includes a printed brochure, stick pen, and DVD. The mold for making the clamshell was designed and made by Plastic Ingenuity, Inc. The promotional package has been distributed to area packaging professionals, school counselors, students, and other campus visitors. Similar promotional packages are being developed for the other engineering departments.
