   ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

A bachelor's degree or its equivalent from an accredited American college or university or from a foreign institution of acceptable standing is required for admission. Each candidate is evaluated individually for admission to the program. Because of the possible wide variations in student background--education, past performance, age, experience, and academic objectives--individualized graduate-program requirements for each student may be anticipated beyond the core. Therefore, every potential applicant is expected to contact the Program Director to arrange a personal interview to discuss goals, expectations, and personal qualifications.

The following guidelines will help potential applicants assess their suitability for the program. A candidate for the program should:

  • be a bachelor level graduate from an ABET accredited engineering program or bachelor level graduate from a discipline that emphasizes quantitative reasoning and analysis. Such disciplines include mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, computer science, and quantitative business administration.
  • have attained a grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in his or her undergraduate major.
  • be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • preferably have at least three years of work experience in an engineering, scientific, or technical management capacity. (Required for MEM degree applicants)

Applicants for admission should submit the following to the Office of Graduate Engineering:

  1. one official transcript of previous academic credits from each of the colleges or universities previously attended;
  2. two letters of recommendation from immediate supervisors or other individuals qualified to attest to the applicant's preparation for and ability to perform graduate study;
  3. a completed Graduate Engineering Application Form with $25.00 application fee;
  4. official Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores;
  5. (International Applicants Only) scores from the TOEFL if English is not their native language or was not the language of instruction for their baccalaureate degree. (a proficiency in English at least the equivalent to a TOEFL score of 550 paper-based test, or 231 computer-based test , or 79 internet-based test must be demonstrated);
  6. (International Applicants Only) World Education Services (WES) Comprehensive Course-by-Course Report. This evaluation is required for individuals whose highest degree is from a foreign university. The course-by-course report will evaluate the credentials of a prospective student. Their mailing address is World Education Services; P.O. Box 5087; Bowling Green Station; New York, NY 10274-5087;
  7. any other requirements set by the Academic Graduate Council and/or the Graduate Engineering Curriculum Committee.

To request an application packet, contact the Program Director (901-321-3283 or memp@cbu.edu).
