MEMPHIS - CBU junior guard Trey Casey (Cincinnati, Ohio, La Salle HS) earned the Gulf South Conference and Tennessee Sports Writer Association Player of the Week awards after posting back-to-back 30-point games last week for the Bucs.
Casey scored a career-high 32 points to go with five rebounds and three steals in Thursday’s 89-59 win over Union, knocking down 9-of-10 three-pointers. He made his first eight in a row, just two off the NCAA record of 10 straight makes. His 90 percent shooting is a new school record, and his nine threes tied for second in school history. His shooting helped CBU as a team shot 18-of-27, the second-most three-pointers in a game in school history, and the 66.7 percent clip tied for second.
Casey followed with 31 points, six steals, four rebounds and three assists in the Bucs’ 96-89 loss to North Alabama Saturday afternoon. Casey was 10-of-18 overall and made 9-of-10 free throws before fouling out in 38 minutes.
Casey won GSC Player of the Week for the first time of his career, and he won the TSWA award for the second consecutive week. He is the Bucs’ first GSC Player of the Week since the 2011-12 season.
