CHEM 211 Departmental Syllabus
ORGANIC CHEMISTRY I

Catalog Data This is an introductory course covering all of the principle functional groups, stereochemsitry, chromatograph and spectroscopy. The course is structured around the principal reaction types and includes examles from both the aliphatic and aromatic series. Particular attention is given to the mechanisms of organic reactions. Offered in the fall semester One semester; three credits.
Prerequisite: CHEM 114 and CHEM 114L.
Corequisite: CHEM 211L
Textbooks Organic Chemistry, Francis Carey, McGraw-Hill, 5th Ed, (2003)
Prerequisite:
Calculator Policy
Goals The course is designed to prepare the student for CHEM 212, introduce the student to the principal organic functional groups with emphasis on the relationship betwen structure and reactivity, and emphasize the three dimensional nature of organic molecules.
