Christian Brothers University

Math 132 Departmental Syllabus
Calculus II

Catalog Data The goals of the course are to teach the student additional important concepts of calculus begun in Math 131. Topics include integration by parts, partial fractions and use of tables, applications of integration, approximations using Taylor and Fourier polynomials and series and modeling. The course requires the use of a graphing calculator.
Prerequisite: Math 131

Textbook Calculus, Robert T. Smith and Roland B. Minton, third edition, McGraw Hill, 2007

Calculator Policy You must use a graphing calculator, such as the TI-89, on assignments and occasionally on tests.

Computer Usage You must complete several computer-based quizzes. You may need to complete several computer-based lessons in a fifty-minute laboratory session. The lessons require your active participation using commercial software called Maple.

Prerequisites You should have fundamental skills in the calculus techniques of differentiation and integration and mathematical problem solving.

Goals The course strengthens your understanding of the concepts of differentiation and integration. It teaches you applications of calculus and approximations of functions.
