Project 2
You may recall the five aliens (Yam, Bam, Uam, Iam and Gam) on a
spaceship, from Example 1.12. Well it was a LONG trip and Iam and
Bam fell in love and got married. Despite mutterings about ``cradle
robbing'' and ``May-December romances'' (remember, Iam is the youngest
and Bam the eldest!) they have a stable relationship and had
children. They are approaching earth and would like to hire you to
teach their children basic math. These aliens have two hands one of
which has four fingers and a thumb the other of which has five
fingers and a thumb. Being a conscientious person you prepare
teaching algorithms and examples for every possible base these aliens
might use. Your assignment on this project is to choose one
(reasonable!) base and design algorithms, both regular and
instructional, for addition, multiplication, subtraction and division
in this particular base. Give me examples of how to use each of these
algorithms.
