Math 141 Summer I 96

OFFICE HOURS: 2:00pm - 3:00pm MTWR and by appointment

{TEXT: Applied Finite Mathematics, 4th Ed., by Tan.

COURSE CONTENT: This course will cover chapters 1-4 and chapters 6-8 of the text with the exception of sections 2.7 and 4.2. These chapters include the following topics: systems of linear equations, matrices, linear programming, logic, counting principles, probability, and statistics.

HOMEWORK: Homework will be not be collected for this course. Included with this syllabus is a list of suggested homework problems. I will spend the first 5-10 minutes of each class answering questions about the previous days homework.

QUIZZES: There will be quizzes on most days. These quizzes will be very short (approx. 10 min.) and will come almost directly from the homework. Each quiz will be worth 10 points and I will count 11 of them. Since I plan to give at least 14 of these quizzes I will drop the extra ones. This does mean that quizzes cannot be made up.

TESTS: There will be two in-class exams, each exam worth 100 points, and a comprehensive final exam worth 120 points. The tentative dates for the exams are listed below. I will not curve your test grades. If you miss a test for any University excused absence, you need to notify me no later than the day after the test to set up a time for a make-up.

PROJECTS: There will be two or three projects each worth five or ten points, for a total of twenty points, during the semester.

ATTENDANCE: Attendance is mandatory only in the sense that I will only give make-ups if you have a University excused absence.

GRADING: 400-450 = A, 350-400 = B, 300-350 = C, 250-300 = D and less than 250 = F.
