Math 366 Summer II
TEXT: Mathematical Reasoning For Elementary Teachers (Second Edition) by Long and DeTemple.
COURSE CONTENT: We will cover chapters 10-14. The subject
matter to be covered includes: Geometry,
measurement and coordinate geometry.
Homework will be assigned on a daily basis. This homework is
intended to be a learning and self-assesment tool. We will be
discussing, in class, problems similar to those assigned as homework.
Therefore, attempting to work these problems prior to class will help
you ask
intelligent questions and working more problems after a class will
reinforce concepts learned during the class period. I will not grade
this homework, it is your responsibility to work as many of the
problems as needed in order to learn the material.
TESTS: There will be two in-class exams, each exam worth 100 points, and a comprehensive final exam worth 100 points. The first in class exam is (tentatively) scheduled for Wed. Aug. 19. Make-up exams will be offered only if I am notified no later than one day after the original exam of a University excused absence.
PROJECTS: There will be five projects each worth twenty points, for a total of one hundred points, during the semester. These projects may be individual or group-study projects depending upon the type of problems we will be solving at that time.
ATTENDANCE:Attendence is the responsibility of the student. I will not take roll. However, there is a class participation component to your grade. This component is worth a total of 40 points and may not be made up under any circumstances. You will need index cards, one for each class period that you attend, for the major part of these 40 points.
GRADING: 360-400 = A, 315-360 = B, 270-315 = C, 225-270 = D and less than 225 = F.
