Half Time included great music from LOC (pictured on the Next Page of Photos).

The CBU Pom squad and the Buccaneer mascot cheered for Youth & Vitality.

The Youth & Vitality of the Pom squad contrasts sharply with the exhaustion of Age & Deceit at Half Time.

Back to the action with Age & Deceit trailing by a few points.

Dr. Brown readies for a foul shot.

Age & Deceit's "strategy" doesn't pay off as Youth & Vitality makes another foul shot.

Age & Deceit supplemented their ranks with CBU alum Lisa Harper. (Yes, this was a flagrant violation of the rules, but deceit was A&D's only hope.)

Air-balls don't score (attempts to bribe the officials were unsuccessful).

Youth & Vitality mounts a strong defense, but Age &
Deceit did manage to score a few points.

Age & Deceit emptied their bench but still couldn't prevent this score from Youth & Vitality.

[Not pictured here:  Professors Carter, Ogilvie, and Baumeyer conspired to score one basket for Age & Deceit with the aid of a step ladder.]
Here Dr. Holmes tries to score the legitimate way.
Final Score:  28-20.  The Victors: Youth & Vitality [BBB+ACS Students]
Defeated but Unbowed:  Age & Deceit [School of Sciences Faculty]

Post Game Analysis
by Dr. Stan Eisen
2 Nov. 2000

As you know, the FIRST-EVER Youth & Vitalityvs. Age & Deception Charity Basketball Game was a win-win experience.
Why?  1) The students won, 28-20; and 2) ALL the faculty survived.

  • 1) Both students and faculty want to do this again as an annual event;
  • 2) Dr. Eisen spoke with Mike Nienaber, coach of the men's basketball team, and he is amenable to having the game as an annual event, but he would prefer the game to be held BEFORE Fall Break.  The reason is that NCAA regulations specify that practices cannot start until mid-October.  Mike would rather schedule the game when we wouldn't be rushed in between practices for the women's and men's teams, as we were this time.  Perhaps two weeks before Fall Break might be best;
  • 3) Dr. Eisen would like to make official presentations of the checks to Brother Mark Snodgrass, Principal of De La Salle School at Blessed Sacrament, and to someone official at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.  The CBU Student Chapter of the American Chemical Society will be at De La Salle School on Wednesday 8 November 2000 to do a demonstration for National Chemistry Week.  That might be an appropriate day to make an official presentation of the check for donations received during the charity basketball game. IF you are interested in visiting the school and participating in the official presentation, PLEASE contact Dr. Eisen seisen@cbu.edu
  • 4) Some students feel that the person who kept score awarded the faculty with more than one 4-point play.  When the scorekeeper was asked about this, he said, "No comment." :-)
  • Many thanks to all who played and attended.
