  • Beta Beta Beta, the biology honor society, would like to thank everyone who participated in their "Bowling for Uganda" bowl-a-thon on 10 November 2007. The event was a great success, raising money for Hope North, a camp for internally displaced people in Uganda.

Ending Poverty Through Enterprise:
Raising Funds for Hope North, an Internally Displaced People’s Camp in Uganda
  • Hope North is a remote village in Uganda and is commonly referred to as a self-sustainable internally displaced people’s camp, created as the result of a civil war in Uganda.  The Acholi people have been the targets of this war, in which their own children have been abducted by the “Lord’s Resistance Army” and then forced to kill their own kinfolk.  The U.N. and many other non-profit organizations have set up camps in Uganda in hopes of protecting many of the displaced Acholi people.  These camps are overcrowded and have been infiltrated by many diseases such as Typhoid, Malaria, and now most commonly Cholera. These are only a few of the numerous challenges that the villages face.
