• BOWL-A-THON FOR UGANDA: The annual Beta Beta Beta Bowl-a-thon for Uganda is Friday evening, 5:00-7:00 p.m., at Billy Hardwick All Star Bowling Lanes (1576 S. White Station). 
• The Bowl-a-Thon supports the Hope North Community in Uganda that shelters and educates Ugandans displaced by the war. This year a new water pump system will need to be installed or Hope North is in danger of being shut down.  It will cost over $5,000 -- BBB's goal is to meet $2,000 of the cost with this event. 
• Sign up to play by contacting Dr. Mary Ogilvie at mogilvie@cbu.edu by Thursday. The cost for students is $15 per person and $20 each for all others (faculty, alumni, family and guests).  Sponsors above and beyond the entry fee are always welcome.  Bring spouses, friends, and family members for a great time and a great cause.

• Ending Poverty Through Enterprise:  Raising Funds for Hope North, an Internally Displaced People’s Camp in Uganda
• Hope North is a remote village in Uganda and is commonly referred to as a self-sustainable internally displaced people’s camp, created as the result of a civil war in Uganda.  The Acholi people have been the targets of this war, in which their own children have been abducted by the “Lord’s Resistance Army” and then forced to kill their own kinfolk.  The U.N. and many other non-profit organizations have set up camps in Uganda in hopes of protecting many of the displaced Acholi people.  These camps are overcrowded and have been infiltrated by many diseases such as Typhoid, Malaria, and now most commonly Cholera. These are only a few of the numerous challenges that the villages face.

• The MHIRT Projects Symposium and Wrap-up for Summer 2008 projects was held September 13, 9:00 a.m. - 1:15 p.m., in Sabbatini (Thomas Center). Students who participated in the 2008 projects from this international research experience presented the results from their summer research. (2008 participants will have a wrap up workshop following the lunch break.)

The Minority Health International Research Training grant to CBU supports undergraduate and graduate students who are selected to join summer research projects in Brazil and Uganda.  MHIRT is a paid internship.  All expenses relative to travel, room and board, preparation, and workshops are paid for and you receive a stipend.   The MHIRT application deadline is 27 Jan. 2009.
