Research Interests -- Dr. Dennis L. Merat

Project #1 – Calmodulin/ Calcium-binding Proteins – This project involves the 

isolation and characterization of calcium-binding proteins from 

both plant tissues and bovine brain. 

Project Goals:

1. Development of novel student lab protocals for the rapid 

isolation of calcium-binding proteins, including

calmodulin, from soft plant tissues.

2. Characterization of this plant calmodulin, as well as additional 

calcium-binding proteins, from these plant tissues.

3. Identification of potential calmodulin-binding proteins from 

these same sources.

4.Comparison of these calcium-binding proteins with similar 

proteins from bovine brain.
