S Fx = D(mvx)/Dt and S Fy = D(mvy)/Dt .
We can re-write this as:
(SFx)*Dt = D(mvx) and (SFy)*Dt = D(mvy)
The quantity on the right side of the above equations, mv, has its own name:
momentum: p = mv
Since m is a scalar and v is a vector, p is also a vector.
