Using the second equation, we can solve for v1i: m1v1i + m2v2i = m1v1f + m2v2f

Since v2i = 0, and v1f = v2f = 4 m/s, we have

v1i = (5 grams + 400 grams)*(4 m/s) / 5 grams = 324 m/s .
