Vtotal = V1 + V2 .

Thus, Ceff = Qtotal / Vtotal = Qtotal / (V1 + V2), or (with Qtotal = Q1 = Q2)

[1/Ceff] = (V1 + V2) / Qtotal = V1/Q1 + V2/Q2 = 1/C1 + 1/C2 = 1/Ceffective .
