Electric Fields due to several point charges
Since electric fields are vectors, we need to add the fields of individual point charges as vectors. And since we add vectors by adding the rectangular components, we must first express the individual point charge fields in rectangular form:
Ex = E cos(?) and Ey = E sin(q)
where E = kq/r2, and q is the angle the direction the field makes with the right directed horizontal.
