Modern Materials or New Technologies

Purpose

The purpose of this project is to encourage students to use the Internet for academic work. This project will involve searching the internet for information about some modern material.

The purpose of this project is to also develop skills in critically analyzing information on the web.

The report must

The web page may contain pictures, animations or movies. However, if the pictures, animations, or movies come from another web site, permission must be obtained for use in the report and the web site must be referenced.

This report can not be submitted as a PowerPoint document.

The topic must be submitted as a Word document through WebCT Course Assignments by Oct. 22 so that it can be approved before Oct. 31. Reports on topics not approved will receive a maximum of 50 points.
This report is due Dec. 1.

This project is worth a total of 60 pts, including 10 pts. for getting your topic approved before March 13.

5 pts. Listing of the URL for the sites (minimum of two) and a description of your search strategy and search engine used.

5 pts. Title of sources along with title of organizations.

10 pts. Critique of sources:

20 pts. In your own words, a summary of content, including a description of the material and how it is used. (DO NOT CUT AND PASTE SOMEONE ELSE' WORDS!)

5 pts. Submit the report in the Course Assignment Drop Box. To upload completed assignment file, click Student Files, select your file, and upload the file from your computer. To submit assignments after uploading it, click Submit Assignment.

The file name must be in the form of your username plus ir (usernameir.doc or usernameir.htm). There is a 5 pt. penalty for not following these file naming instructions.


5 pts. Originality. You may use one of the materials listed in this document. However, the maximum grade for such a report is 45 pts. For any topic not on the following list, yet approved by the instructor, the maximum grade for the report is 50 pts.

There is a 10 point penalty for late reports.
