Greenhouse gases
Some gases increase the heat-retaining ability of the atmosphere. These are called greenhouse gases, because these gases are opaque to heat energy, much like the glass of a greenhouse is opaque to heat energy.
Includes water (not a major player in current concern), carbon dioxide, methane.
