PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (AP) -- A newlywed couple spent the night in separate jail cells -- she in her wedding gown -- after police said they brawled with each other, then members of another wedding party, at a suburban Pittsburgh hotel.

The fight started Saturday night after a reception when he knocked her to the floor with a karate kick in the seventh-floor hallway of a Holiday Inn, according to police. It escalated when she attacked two guests from another wedding party who came to her aid, police said.

The melee moved to an elevator and then to the lobby, where the couple threw metal planters at the two guests of the other party, causing minor injuries, police charged.

"It was pretty wild," Ross police Sgt. Dave Syska said.

Dentist David W. Wielechowski, 32, of Shaler, and Christa Vattimo, 25, had married a month earlier in the Bahamas but repeated their vows Saturday at a reception for 150 guests. They were checking into their room when the argument began, police said.

Police arrived to find the dentist lying on the lobby floor and his bride screaming, they said.

Authorities charged them both with simple assault, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct, and the bride with an additional count of public intoxication. They face a May 7 preliminary hearing.

A district judge considered issuing a restraining order against Wielechowski, but his new bride declined the measure.

The couple declined comment upon their release Sunday morning.

She left with her father, still dressed in her white gown.

Wielechowski left alone, sporting a swollen eye, tuxedo pants, a bloody T-shirt and one shoe.

5.  I think they meant to say, “Peonies”…

Do they Bloom?

I wonder if they come in different colors?

I wonder about the fragrance?

I wonder if it would help to put those preservative packets in the water?

I wonder whether they would look better on the kitchen table or in the entry?

I wonder if they're cheaper by the dozen?

I wonder if they come in long-stemmed?

Captured at 115th and Allisonville Rd. In Fishers (Indianapolis). The sign is real and was up for two hours before someone stopped and told them how to spell PEO NI ES!

Men sentenced for setting friend's crotch ablaze

Mon Jul 21, 8:30 PM ET

Two practical jokers are behind bars for setting their passed-out drinking buddy's crotch ablaze while boozing in Grover Beach. Matthew Craig Pillers and Jack Brent Nicholas Keiffer pleaded no contest to a felony great bodily injury charge.

Prosecutors say the 22-year-old Pillers, a parolee, was sentenced to two years in prison and the 19-year-old Keiffer got 45 days in San Luis Obispo County jail.

Elliot Tuleja was passed out when the men poured cologne on the man's groin and set him on fire on Jan. 18. Tuleja had second-degree burns on his testicles.

7.  An addendum to the story mentioned above, from Dr. Ron B., a physician now living in Texas.

Alright Eisen, I have a better one than that.

Some years ago while on faculty of U of I Coll of Med, Peoria in the ER. We had a brand new grad attending that was hired. Think he came from Cinci or Louisville.

Early in the AM a patient came in and had a lesion - peri-anal that needed cauterizing. He thought he would be kind since the area was sensitive and instead of using a needle and syringe with lidocaine decided to use a ethylene Chloride topical anesthetic to "freeze the area". He sprayed it and immediately took the small disposable cautery to cauterize it, and of course it flashed, singeing the mans hair on his testicles and anus. What was really bad was he was showing this to one of our really good first year residents who didn't say anything fast enough and embarrassed himself no end. After that he oftentimes would come to me and check about his procedures before doing things. The resident thought it was a hoot. It also had a bit of problem with credibility with the residents.

P.S.   The man had only a mild flashburn type thing, 1 degree at most.

Thought you would enjoy that.

You might want to use that as a teaching tool for some of your "haughty or arrogant" students in the pre-med program.

Pride goeth before a fall.

8.  Here’s a novel way to exchange wedding vows underwater!  From yahoo.com news, Monday, July 28, 2008.

Here comes the bride, glub glub, glub...

Mon Jul 28, 8:04 PM ET

The bride wore a white veil, a red garter and black neoprene. The groom, too, was in diving gear, set off by a red bow tie. When the pastor pronounced them man and wife, Brian Wilson and Christina Gunn took off their breathing gear and exchanged a kiss 20 feet under the surface of the Illinois River in Southern Oregon.

The underwater ceremony was performed last week, the Grants Pass Daily Courier reported.

The vows were written in pencil on a white slate, which were displayed for Pastor Jim Bard, also a diver.

"He asked us if we did, we held up our cards that say, 'I do,' he pronounced us man and wife, then we took off our regulators and we kissed," said Gunn. "I cried."

Wilson is a former captain of the Josephine County swiftwater dive team who said, "I darn near cried, too."

Gunn picked up the sport after meeting him.

They chose their wedding spot, under a bridge, for romantic reasons.

"That was the first place we dived together," said Wilson. "We're both previously married with kids, and we were thinking, 'Why do we want to have a traditional wedding? Let's do something unique and cool.' "

A small group of family members gathered on the riverbank.

"It's really different, I'll tell you," said Gunn's grandmother, Genevieve Eppele, who scrambled down the rocks with her husband of 63 years, Fred.

"I told her, 'Can't you get married like normal people?' " said Gunn's mother, Gail Stading.

For the benefit of family members, the couple afterward repeated their vows on dry land.

P.S.  The ceremony looked something like this:

CHENNAI, India (Reuters Health) Sept 11 - A ring-tone that sings "condom, condom, condom" has attracted over 270,000 downloads since its launch last month and has spread the message of safe sex to many more mobile phone users in India and abroad.

The innovative "Condom a Capella" ring-tone that has the word "condom" sung in many overlapping melodies is the work of an Indian duo, Rupert Fernandes and Vijay Prakash. The website http://www.condomcondom.org, where the ring-tone can be heard, has had over 2 million hits.

The campaign has been produced by the BBC World Service trust in India and aims to target the increasing number of India's mobile phone users, presently estimated at over 250 million.

According to latest figures, 2.4 million people are living with HIV in India. Only around half of the at-risk population, including sex workers and men who have sex with men have access to HIV prevention measures, the latest UNAIDS fact sheet on India states.

Stigma and taboo associated with sex education are the major challenges facings HIV/AIDS prevention programs in India. Less a third of the young population surveyed could correctly identify the ways to prevent HIV infection, the UNAIDS report states.

Never before has a mobile ring-tone been used to communicate a social or public health message, said Yvonne MacPherson, Country Director, India, BBC World Service Trust.

"We wanted to create a conversation piece that would get people talking and ultimately break down the taboo about condoms," she commented to Reuters Health. "We want condoms to be seen as any other health product."

11.  Should women propose to men?  UK jeweler H. Samuels thinks so.

H SAMUELS OFFERS MALE ENGAGEMENT RING 19 January 2009

UK jeweler H Samuel is introducing the Tioro engagement ring exclusively for men in response to growing demand from female customers who want to propose to their male partners. The titanium band has a small diamond set in it and is retailed at approximately US$118.00 (£79.99). The Tioro ring is available for purchase online.

More than 60 percent of H Samuel's customers support the idea of women asking men to marry them and many are currently doing so with watches and other jewelry, says an H Samuel spokesperson, who also explains that the motivation behind women purchasing the Tioro ring is twofold: equality and women want to make it clear their men are spoken for.
