Defining Characteristics

• Platy + helminthes = flat worm, all are dorso-ventrally flattened.

• Acoelomate (possibly a secondary phenomenon)

• Triploblastic

• Bilaterally symmetrical

• Because they have soft bodies, there is virtually no fossil record.
