In 1993, a series of unusual weather and water flow conditions in Lake Michigan caused waste water from Milwaukee to be drawn into its own water supply plants, resulting in an outbreak of Cryptosporidium parvum. Over 312,000 people became ill. The immunosuppressed residents were most seriously affected.
