This poem is by Lisa Brandt

De La Salle is a complex man and I have tried to understand his character by writing a poem about what I understand is in his heart.

Trapped by the World

Part I

A balloon floating high in the sky am I.

Reaching further to the glistening stars

All around blackness burns in.

Safe, safe is a twisted rope.

Tethered I am to your foundation.

Strong as a stone,

Heavy to hold me.

Full am I of worldly ideas.

Filling me, bouncing against my insides,

Poking like pins they cannot escape.

Part II

I can not reach you friend.

Yearning is what I do.

Day and night are filled with your guidance and goodness.

Void of life,

My body is an empty vessel when the light is gone...

Dark clouds suck and swirl around the tight tether.

I have made my own distance inch by inch.

My lifeline can be plucked like a string.

I can't see.

On broken knees head in hand I search.

What do I do Lord?

I can not see you.

I can not hear you.

I can not feel you.

I am too far, have too many inches.

Reveal the road.

Let it be rocky or long or desolate but let you be on it.

Part III

Lowering, falling, sinking, a beautiful crash to the foundation.

Tether twisted on itself like a vine, no longer needed.

Pins meet stone, I burst.

Cold Stone, Strong Stone.

Heavy you hold me.

I have escaped.

United I am with my Creator.
